Asit Kumarr Modi’s sitcom, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, is one of the longest-running shows of Indian television, which is still going strong, even in its 17th year. Recently, buzz was rife that Munmun Dutta, aka the beloved ‘Babita Ji’, was also leaving the show, given her absence from some episodes. Given the show’s long history of cast changes, the fear was understandable. Now, the actress has broken her silence on the ongoing rumours.
Munmum Dutta breaks her silence on exiting TMKOC
In recent weeks, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has been running a horror-comedy plot where the residents of the fictional Gokuldham Society visit a haunted bungalow. While almost every major character, including ‘Jethalal’, ‘Popatlal’, ‘Bhide’, and ‘Sodhi’, was seen on screen, ‘Babita Ji’s’ absence from the scenes did not go unnoticed.
Fans took to social media asking whether Munmun Dutta had silently exited the show. Over the years, Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah has lost most of its major actors who gifted the audience iconic characters, notably Disha Vakani (‘Daya Ben’), Gurucharan Singh (‘Sodhi’), and Shailesh Lodha (‘Taarak Mehta’). After Munmun’s absence, viewers naturally speculated that the actress followed suit.

“Rumours are always not true #munmundutta #workmodeon #tmkoc”

Asit Kumarr Modi clears the air on Munmun Dutta and Dilip Joshi’s exit from the show
Earlier, the show’s creator and producer, Asit Kumarr Modi, directly addressed the swirling rumours about Munmum Dutta and Dilip Joshi retiring from their respective characters, ‘Babita Ji’ and ‘Jethalal’. Speaking to the media, Modi quashed the exit rumours, stating:
“Kuch nahi hai. Sab log hamari team ka part hain. Unke kuch personal reasons the, isliye wo episodes mein nahi thi… Aapko maloom hai aaj ka social media kaisa hai? Social media itna negative ho chuka hai ki aap positive soch rakhni chahiye. Aur Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah ekdum positive show hai. Family show hai, khushiyan deta hai… Yeh nahi ki kuch bhi chhoti-chhoti baaton par kuch bhi rumour faila do, kuch bhi anchahiye baat kar lo.”
Before this, Asit Modi addressed his fallout with the show’s former cast, given that many of them had spoken up against him after exiting TMKOC. Speaking to SCREEN, the producer dismissed the allegations and added that he was open to talking if they ever wanted to speak to him about any issue. In his words:
“I have never detached myself from the actors. If there is any issue, they can always contact me. I have always been very honest and kept the show first. I have never thought of any personal gains, so with incidents like these, I do get upset, but it’s a part of life.”
