Fatima Sana Shaikh reflects on the power of sisterhood and her bond with Ira Khan: “She’s someone I truly love”

Speaking to News18 Showsha, Fatima Sana Shaikh shared her close bond with Aamir Khan’s daughter, Ira Khan, a connection that was evident in their candid moments at Ira’s widely shared wedding earlier this year. She also credited Ira for being a strong support during a personal phase, saying, “I did ask Ira for recommendations when I wanted to seek therapy. I reached out to others too, because I have a lot of friends who seek therapy.”

Fatima described Ira as “smart, talented, kind,” adding, “She’s someone I truly love and respect.” Emphasizing the value of friendship and sisterhood, she said she feels fortunate to share close bonds with Sanya Malhotra, Ratna Pathak Shah, and Dia Mirza Rekhi. Dismissing rivalry among actresses as “nonsense,” Fatima said it’s not about gender but a person’s confidence.

Fatima explained that insecurity hinders collaboration, as it creates constant competition for space. Speaking about her upcoming film Metro… In Dino, she shared that despite limited screen time with Neena Gupta, Konkona Sensharma, and Sara Ali Khan, she formed meaningful bonds during Dhak Dhak, especially with Dia Mirza and Ratna Pathak Shah. While Sanjana Sanghi was also part of the film, Fatima felt a deeper connection with Dia and Ratna.

“They’re such strong women. They’re opinionated people with a very evolved understanding of life and relationships,” Fatima said, adding that working with secure women, both personally and professionally, was fulfilling. “When you work with secure women, secure not necessarily in terms of their career but also in their personal lives, they’ve a lot to give. So, I really enjoyed working with them,” she stated.

Fatima shared that while she mostly had male friends growing up as a tomboy, she began forming deeper connections with women over time. One such bond is with director Shonali Bose, whom she worked with on Modern Love Mumbai. Fatima praised Shonali’s resilience and vibrant energy, saying she lights up every room and that she deeply loves her.

Fatima will next be seen in Metro… In Dino, directed by Anurag Basu, alongside Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, Ali Fazal, Anupam Kher, Pankaj Tripathi, Konkona Sen Sharma, and Neena Gupta, with music by Pritam. The film releases on July 4. She also stars opposite R Madhavan in the romantic comedy Aap Jaisa Koi, premiering on Netflix on July 11.
