Actor Vishnu Manchu, who has carved his own niche in Telugu cinema, recently opened up about his dream project, long-standing admiration for his fans, and why he’s still waiting for the right opportunity in Hindi cinema.

In an exclusive conversation with India Today, when asked about his debut in a full-fledged Hindi film, Vishnu smiled and responded with honest simplicity, “Whenever someone from Hindi cinema gives me a chance, I’d love to.”

While he had been approached in the past, Vishnu explained why he didn’t take up those offers. “A long time ago, I was approached, but the roles didn’t excite me much. See, we all aspire to be top actors – respected actors. And whatever following or fan base I have, I’ve built it with a lot of love. I have to respect that. I can’t take my fans for granted,” he explained.

Citing an example that deeply influenced his choices, Vishnu recalled, “For example, Mr Ajith (Kumar), one of the biggest superstars in India, did a role in ‘Asoka’ with Shah Rukh Khan. I had the opportunity to talk to him. In fact, I told him in the early stages, ‘Anna’ (which means elder brother), ‘I was disappointed you did such a small role.’ He just smiled and stayed quiet.”

“That made me realise – I should respect my fans too. I can’t just come and do a random character. It has to be something that really excites me. I can’t be selfish and say, ‘I’ll do what I want, whether they like it or not.’ I’m here today because of my fans and the people who watch my films. I’m grateful for their love, and I should reciprocate it by doing movies they’ll be proud of,” he added.

As for the kind of roles that excite him now, Vishnu revealed, “Honestly, anything and everything! Right now, I’m in a phase where I’d love to do action or action comedies. Those are the kinds of films I really enjoy.”

Furthermore, when he was asked if he’d ever like to revisit one of his father, Mohan Babu’s iconic films, Vishnu didn’t hesitate. “There’s a movie called ‘Assembly Rowdy’, which is phenomenal. I’d love to remake that,” he shared.

Manchu added, “It was made in Hindi (‘Loafer’) a long time ago, but I think it didn’t do too well, probably because a lot was lost in translation. I think that film would be a great one for me to make.”

Meanwhile, Vishnu was last seen in ‘Kannappa’, which was released on June 27. The film also stars Akshay Kumar, Prabhas, Mohanlal, and Mohan Babu among others.
