Located in the area of San José, just 15 minutes from Ibiza’s city center and Cala Jondal, Can (home in ibicenco) Nikita is a traditional 19th-century finca that offers a peaceful retreat from the island’s vibrant party scene.

This property, spanning more than 378,000 square feet and nestled in nature, has been restored by its owners, India and Victor Douce, who named it after their daughter Nikita.

The couple, who grew up in Ibiza but lived in Paris, returned to the island during India’s pregnancy and fell in love with the property. Now they live there from September through June.

The couple bought the house in 2020 and started renovating it, envisioning a sanctuary for well-being and a meaningful family project, with their daughter as the guiding force. “This house was built out of love for our daughter,” India Douce explains. “We focused on creating a space that would benefit her, beginning from nature to how we organized the space and how we painted the rooms.”

The house, with a recorded history that dates back 304 years, is a true Ibiza finca with a “very strong soul,” which the couple preserved during the renovation even as they added extensions. “The house is really alive, full of a lot of stories and beautiful art,” India notes.

In the six-meter-high living room, the floor was painted by artist Guy de Rougemont, who lived in the house for 60 years, and the walls feature frescoes by Ibiza-based oil painter Alex Jarman.

The property can welcome up to 12 guests, with six bedrooms, seven bathrooms, a kitchen and a meditation room.

The interior design is minimalist, with a soothing color palette that showcases shades of beige and soft hues and features natural materials such as marble, local stones and artifacts. The furniture includes different collaborations, such as one with Spanish interior architect Patricia Galdon.

Each of the bedrooms has its own character: the Love Room, for instance, is adorned with crimson mosaic tiles, smooth plaster walls, and a soft baby pink color palette, while the Trippy Room is defined by a hand-drawn spiral motif on the floor.

“Before touching it, we had the opportunity to be able to live inside the house and understand which are the places that we liked or that we wanted to protect or hide, where was the light of the sun coming from. We connected a lot of different perspectives and we created a really safe space,” India says.

The property’s outdoor space is highlighted by a beautiful Japanese garden, featuring pine and palm trees, and colorful flowers, alongside a vegetable garden. A treehouse, with its floor-to-ceiling windows, wooden ceilings and neutral beige tones, complements the natural surroundings.

The villa offers a range of leisure options, including a sauna, yoga terrace, thermal spa and pool. A cozy fire pit is also available for chilly evenings. For those looking for more active pursuits, there’s a tennis court and gym on site.

Over time, Can Nikita has hosted not only friends and guests but also fashion brands, including H&M, Reformation and Gucci, which shot its 2024 Lido campaign at the villa, along the pool, while Reformation shot its “Ibiza Collection” campaign there last year.

“This became kind of a trendy house,” India says. “The cool thing is that these types of brands always look for unique locations, usually avoiding repeating the same venues to stand out from competitors. However, they praised Can Nikita for its versatility, saying it can be imagined and shot in many different ways, allowing for endless creative possibilities.”

The house serves as a gallery once a year, hosting a selected artist chosen by the couple. The artist is invited to stay in the house beforehand “in order to create, feel and be inspired by it,” and then showcase their work. “We usually set up the exhibitions as really sensorial shows,” India explains. “Guests are invited to explore the house, from the bottom up, and then into nature outdoors, where we put on a show.  Sometimes we even invite Cirque du Soleil acrobats to perform.”

The results of these exhibitions are always satisfying, with all the pieces sold or placed in galleries, she continues. The couple’s mission is to create an artistic community, providing a space where artists from different backgrounds and techniques can come together and create. “It’s really about activating the energy of this place.”

India is also the founder and designer of the brand Ikinita, launched in 2023. The brand’s name is inspired by her passion for Japan and the concept of ikigai, meaning “the reason why you live,” combined with Nikita. “It was like uniting the reason why we live with the reason why I create, and the result is a brand that produces clothes for powerful women who feel comfortable and themselves.”

The brand’s creation process coincided with the renovation of the house, almost as a consequence of that. In fact, all the research on materials, color grading, spaces, and forms that went into building Can Nikita has been translated into her brand and the creation of the collections, all of which are limited edition.

The brand scouts artisans around the world  who specialize in various techniques, from intricate embroidery to weaving, beadwork and tailoring. For example,  the latest collection, “Jeu d’Enfant,” was created in collaboration with painter Audrey Bertoia and is inspired by her hand-painted tarot cards.

Ikinita’s flagship is located in the city center at Carrer Plàcid Pereyra, 5. The brand is committed to sustainability and environmental responsibility, and is part of Nona Source, LVMH Möet Hennessy Louis Vuitton’s platform offering deadstock fabrics and leathers from its fashion houses. The brand’s production is divided between Paris and Istanbul, the latter being a city with family ties for India.
