On Monday, a Delhi court permitted the CBI to conclude the case of Najeeb Ahmed, a first-year JNU student who vanished on October 15, 2016.Jyoti Maheshwari, an additional chief judicial magistrate, acknowledged the agency’s closure report but gave permission to review the case in the event that new information became available. When the CBI’s attempts to track down Ahmed, a first-year master’s student at JNU, failed, the agency closed the case in October 2018.After receiving approval from the Delhi High Court, the agency submitted its closing report to the court in the matter. On October 15, 2016, Ahmed vanished from JNU’s Mahi-Mandvi hostel after a fight with some students who were supposedly connected to the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad the night before. It was a “political case” in which the “CBI has succumbed to the pressure of its masters,” according to Nafees’ counsel.Delhi Police initially looked into the case before it was turned over to the CBI.
