Aamir Khan recently organized a special screening of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, a coming-of-age sports comedy directed by RS Prasanna, in Mumbai. The event featured a rare yet heartwarming moment as Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan attended to show their support for their longtime contemporary.

Interestingly, this wasn’t the only recent occasion when the trio shared the same screening room. Aamir reminded everyone that Salman and Shah Rukh had previously attended a preview of Loveyapa, which marked the big-screen debut of his son, Junaid Khan.
Despite the camaraderie seen today, Aamir shared in an interview with The Lallantop that the trio didn’t begin as close friends. Recalling his personal struggles in the early 2000s after his separation from Reena Dutta, Aamir said, “I was in a very dark space emotionally. I used to drink heavily and isolate myself. Salman dropped by one day for dinner. I don’t even remember how it came about, and we ended up having a deep conversation that went on for hours. That’s when our friendship really began.”
Their first collaboration, the cult comedy Andaz Apna Apna (1994), wasn’t without its challenges. “Back then, I used to get annoyed because Salman would often show up late, and I felt things weren’t going as planned. I thought we couldn’t be friends,” Aamir recalled.
Aamir confessed, “But meeting him again years later made me realise we all have flaws. We make mistakes. That understanding changed me – I became less judgemental.”
Addressing the constant comparisons among the three Khans, Aamir responded with ease. “It’s natural. Whether it’s cricket or cinema, people always compare those at the top. I understand the curiosity,” he said.
In a humorous moment, Aamir joked about the quieter crowd outside his Bandra home. “When our home was under renovation, Kiran (Rao) and I stayed in another building on Carter Road where Jackie Shroff also lived. One day I saw a huge crowd outside and thought, ‘Finally, people have come to see me!’ I happily went downstairs to greet them, only to realise they were there for Tiger Shroff,” he said, laughing.
From professional rivalries to unlikely friendships, Aamir Khan’s reflections offered a rare look at the personal side of stardom — one marked by vulnerability, connection, and a sense of humour.
