One of Mel Brooks‘ earliest comedy masterpieces is the 2000 Year Old Man character he developed with comedy partner Carl Reiner — and while Brooks hasn’t quite hit 2000 years yet, he’s getting there: the comedy icon behind The Producers, Spaceballs and Blazing Saddles turned 99 on June 28, 2025.
And unlike most folks approaching their centennial birthday, the writer, actor and director has shown no interest in slowing down: in 2021, he published an autobiography, All About Me!, and wrote, produced, and narrated History of the World, Part II, and just this month, he has announced that he will produce the TV show Very Young Frankenstein and appear in Spaceballs 2, a film projected to be released in 2027, around Brooks’ 101st birthday.
