Barkha Singh recounts a disturbing casting couch encounter via email
In a candid interview with Hauterrfly, Barkha Singh recounted an incident involving a rather unusual email that landed one day in her inbox. While she clarified that she has never faced such propositions in person, Barkha shared that she once received an e-mail suggesting a role in a South Indian film, with an explicit demand for ‘compromise’, but no name was mentioned. She shared:
“Someone put it in my email. I think it was something for ‘the South, and I have proof where this person was like, ‘These many shoot days required, and the vitals should be at least 36; compromise is required.’ You are giving it in writing means you are so okay with it. Naam nahi daala ki kiske saath compromise.”
Recalling the experience, Barkha added that it was not even a long-forgotten chapter from her early days in the industry; the incident had happened within the last decade. She clarified that no one has ever made such demands to her face, but she still remains cautious. In her words:
“No one has said it in the face. But I think I also, because I know this exists, and I’m very wary of it. So, like, I try very hard not to get only in those situations.”
