Shield your eyes! Literally!
After what feels like an eternity of tiny glasses dominance, celebrities are beginning to shift favor, embracing oversized, in-your-face sunnies. In the past few moths, frames have grown to eclipse more and more of the face, swallowing up the eyebrows and much of the nose.
Aviators seem to be the dominant silhoette du jour: Harry Styles strolled through London in Bottaga Venetas while Kim Kardashian wore her Phoebe Philos on a yacht in Cabo. Still, there are sunglasses that befit any mood. For those on a more futuristic bent, look no further than the Rick Owens shield shades that Irina Shayk wore with a citrus summer dress in Cannes. Meanwhile, anyone keen on chanelling a bygone era can turn to Kaia Gerber in her ’70s-inspired sunnies, or Dakota Johnson’s cateyes.
Oversized sunnies are having a moment on the resort 2026 runways, too. Khaite and Balenciaga both opted for black shades—Balenciaga sticking to their preferred bug-eyed; Khaite and Thom Browne opted for a more geometric silhouette. Aviators also dominated with Fendi and Gucci both sending thick, goggle-esque sunnies down the runway. And leave it to Alessandro Michele to do things his way, with bright blue lenses grabbing our attention.
Sure, plenty of celebrities are still committed to their sleek oval shades, but by and large, sunglasses are only growing. Here, see how celebrities are wearing oversized sunglasses this summer.
