Critically acclaimed actor Jaideep Ahlawat, who recently confirmed his role in Shah Rukh Khan and Siddharth Anand’s upcoming action film King, has made another significant revelation. In a recent interview with The Lallantop, the actor confirmed that he was approached to play the role of Vibhishan in Nitesh Tiwari’s ambitious adaptation of Ramayana, but had to turn it down due to scheduling conflicts.

Addressing the speculation, Jaideep said, “Offer hua tha. Par woh timing match nahi ho rahi thi (The role was offered to me, but the dates didn’t match).” He further elaborated, “Unko ek particular timing chahiye thi kyunki Vibhishan ke saath Ravan ka hona zaroori hai… toh do actors ke dates ke saath match hona tha. I’m sure Ravan ki dates mujh se zyada important hongi (They needed both Vibhishan and Ravan to be available at the same time. I’m sure Ravan’s schedule was a bigger priority than mine).”
The film, which stars Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Ram and Yash as Ravan, is one of the most anticipated projects in Indian cinema. Tiwari’s Ramayana is a grand two-part saga that will closely follow the epic narrative—from Lord Ram’s exile to Sita’s abduction by Ravan, and the final battle to rescue her with the help of Hanuman and his army.
Scheduled for a Diwali 2026 release (Part 1) and Diwali 2027 (Part 2), the project is reportedly budgeted at over Rs 1000 crore, making it one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. It also boasts a global creative team, including VFX by Namit Malhotra’s DNEG, action direction by Mad Max: Fury Road’s Guy Norris, and a music collaboration between Oscar winners AR Rahman and Hans Zimmer.
