Diljit Dosanjh’s former manager, Sonali Singh, has come forward to show her support for the singer amid the backlash he has been receiving. For the unversed, Diljit’s Indian fans are extremely unhappy about the singer sharing screen space with Pakistani actress, Hania Aamir, in his upcoming film, Sardaar Ji 3. While celebrities and several netizens have joined the club in bashing the singer-actor, it was his former manager who came to his support.

Sonali Singh took to her Instagram handle on June 25, 2025 and shared a long statement in support of Diljit Dosanjh. She titled the note, ‘Always Choosing Love Over Hate’, and shared that in Diljit’s career spanning over twenty years, Diljit has become a cultural icon for the global stage. However, he was time and again questioned about his choices. She added that the singer has been consistent with his message in interviews, music, films, and public appearances has always been rooted in love, unity, and kindness.
In the same post, Sonali further called the recent wave of negative comments ‘disheartening and unfair’. Sonali shared that the film was shot long before the current political climate intensified. She stressed that boycotting a film which is not backed by a major label can result in massive losses for not just the actor but the entire team. She added:
“Even while fighting other battles, including a film that has been delayed for over two years despite no controversial co-stars. And yet in the face of it all, Diljit has chosen to respect the sentiments of the Indian public and authorities. He is not releasing the film in India, standing in alignment with the nation’s current mood, showing once again that he honours the decisions of his own country even at a personal and professional cost.”

Sonali also talked about how Diljit isn’t thinking of himself and is only trying to do his best to mitigate the losses as much as he can for the producers, the crew and the families whose livelihoods are tied to this film, while still balancing the emotions and respect this country deserves. She added that what hurts her the most was that on one hand, global media celebrated him as the first Indian to perform at Coachella, to appear on Jimmy Fallon carrying his traditional identity and walk the MET Gala red carpet with his culture and roots on display.
Sonali recalled how the actor was called ‘Bharat ke gaaon ka beta’ by the Prime Minister. On the other hand, his own country has forgotten everything he has done to represent India. A part of her post read:
“But on the other hand, in his own country, how quickly we forget. How conveniently we celebrate him when he puts India on the map, and how easily we trash him when the narrative turns. Does anyone think this doesn’t break his heart? Does anyone imagine how demoralising it is to fight for visibility as a brown Indian artist on the world stage and still have to fight for belonging in India? Where does someone like him belong, then? And maybe we need to ask ourselves.”
