Rachel Brosnahan joined the cast and creative team behind the forthcoming film “Superman” for the movie’s premiere on Monday in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Emmy Award-winning “Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” actress stars in the film alongside David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult.

Brosnahan went back to the runway and early 2010s styles, choosing an archival look courtesy of Zuhair Murad‘s fall 2013 couture collection. The Art Deco dress featured a midnight blue tone with a plunging neckline.

Embroidered throughout the sleeveless dress were ornate references to the Art Deco movement, popularized in the 1920s and 1930s. The look included angular elements with latticework on the body of the formfitting dress. The bustline and straps included contrasting elements with circular movement and sinuous lines. Zuhair Murad’s design included a dramatic drop waist with a flowing skirt and shimmering embroidered pieces throughout.

Brosnahan’s dress for the “Superman” Rio de Janeiro premiere comes at a milestone moment for the Art Deco movement. While the visual style originated in the 1910s, it wasn’t until the 1920s and 1930s that Art Deco found mainstream popularity, mostly in the U.S. and France.

In 2025, the Art Deco movement celebrates 100 years of relevance. The style debuted as part of the 1925 Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes, or International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts, in Paris, per WWD’s Sofia Celeste.

In the last century, several designers, including Zuhair Murad, found inspiration for their collections via the art deco movement. Most recently, Elie Saab’s pre-fall 2025 collection, which debuted in Paris last January, chronicled the art deco movement to the disco era with sleek designs and severe lines.

“Superman” follows the titular superhero as he reconciles with his human upbringing as Clark Kent and his alien Kryptonian heritage, striving to protect the world from fierce foes. The film hits theaters July 11.
