The Lemonheads are back. Evan Dando and the band have a new album, Love Chant, on the way, and a sweeping tour of North America and Europe to go with it. Below, listen to lead single “In the Margin” and check out the dates, ahead of the album’s October 24 release via Fire.
Of “In the Margin,” Dando says in a press release, “I wanted to have a riffy song, so I wrote riffs all over it. The body of the song was Marciana [Jones]’s. It’s like a full-on 8th-grade girl revenge song: ‘Stupidly I left the escape plans out so they could find my way.’”
On Love Chant, Evan Dando and the band are joined by J Mascis, Juliana Hatfield, Bryce Goggin, Erin Rae, the Blake Babies’ John Strohm, and the Bevis Frond’s Nick Saloman, as well as co-writers Adam Green and Tom Morgan on “Wild Thing” and “Deep End,” respectively. Apollo Nove produced the LP.
The Lemonheads’ last album of original songs was their 2006 self-titled LP. Since then, they have dropped a pair of covers albums, Varshons and Varshons 2, and themselves been covered by the likes of MJ Lenderman and Courtney Barnett. Dando will release a memoir, Rumors of My Demise, on October 7.
