Jaideep Ahlawat is one of the most acclaimed actors of Bollywood at present, best known for his stellar work in Paatal Lok, Raazi, and Three of Us. An FTII alumnus, Jaideep has made a name for himself in the industry with his versatile, powerful and realistic work in whatever character’s shoes he puts on. From not being able to afford running the family to purchasing a premium flat in Mumbai, Jaideep and Jyoti have come a long way. Recently, the actor talked about his initial days in the industry, when he had no work and his wife, Jyoti Hooda, had to step up to support him financially.

During a candid chat with The Lallantop, Jaideep Ahlawat opened up about his early struggles and how his wife, Jyoti Hooda, became his biggest support. The Maharaja actor revealed that during a difficult phase when he had no work, Jyoti took up a role in the popular TV show, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, to help run the household. An FTII graduate herself, Jyoti quit acting once Jaideep’s career picked up and has since chosen to be a homemaker. Jaideep shared:

“She only did one show, Bade Achhe Lagte Hain starring Ram Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar, because I was not working at that time. She worked in only one show for 4 months, just for money to run the house. After I got work, she left the show and decided to be a homemaker.”

Ahlawat also reminisced about meeting Jyoti during his post-graduation theatre days. He shared how their bond grew over shared interests when Jyoti was studying Mass Communication alongside Ahlawat’s friend, Alkesh. Later, she became his junior at the prestigious FTII, Pune, where their relationship blossomed. In his words:

“I met Jyoti when I was doing a PG during my theatre days. Jyoti and my friend Alkesh were batchmates in MSc Mass Comm. I met her there. I finished my MA in English literature. Then, I joined FTII. I wanted to first gain some training before joining FTII. Hence, I joined Mass Comm. I was a junior of Alkesh and Jyoti. After spending three months, I went to FTII. In FTII, Jyoti was my junior. I was initially attracted to her. Eventually, I fell in love with her.”

When Jaideep Ahlawat praised his wife, Jyoti Hooda, for her constant support in his acting journey

Jaideep has always been vocal about how Jyoti has been his constant support system throughout his acting journey. In a 2021 interview with TOI, Jaideep shared how the spouses of actors, who hardly come into the spotlight, are their strongest supporters, acknowledging how challenging it can be to live with an actor. Appreciating Jyoti’s unwavering support, the actor said:

“No one knows better than a spouse when an actor is disturbed, worried because of prep or any other thing that happened on the set. It takes a lot to live with that. I don’t think I have ever let Jyoti down as a husband, I’ve always tried to give it my all.”
