Two people were killed in a deadly clash between two groups in Birbhum district of West Bengal. The clash took place between two gangs of Hatia village involved in the minting of fake coins.
According to police, both gangs clashed over gaining control of the village.
The clash took place near Hatia bus stand between Sheikh Moinuddin of the coin gang and Sheikh Monir, the head of counterfeit coin sellers. Both groups hurled crude bombs at each other, injuring several people.
Two of the injured later died during treatment at a local hospital. The deceased have been identified as the nephew of local resident Rezaul Khan and son of Trinamool leader Sheikh Badal. The rest of the injured are currently being treated at the hospital.
Birbhum district SP Amandeep has confirmed the death of two people in the incident and an investigation is being conducted into the incident. In 2024, a huge cache of arms was recovered from the area, following which clashes with police were reported.
