How did Gill’s innings unfold at Headingley
Gill came in just after lunch as India were in a spot of bother losing two wickets towards the end of the first session in the form of KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan. Gill wasn’t looking to play second fiddle in the partnership with Yashasvi Jaiswal and unleashed some fine shots.
The Indian captain rarely played any false shots on the day and got to his hundred in 140 balls and with a Virat Kohli-esque boundary. In the process, Gill became the fifth Indian player to score a hundred on his debut as Indian captain.
