Popular singer and composer, Adnan Sami, who has given hit songs like Lift Karadey, Tera Chehra and Bhar Do Jholi Meri, has been living in India for more than 20 years now and in 2016, he got the citizenship of India. But even after so many years, Adnan Sami still receives a lot of hate for giving up his Pakistani citizenship and recently he spoke about that hate and compared it to an ex-lover who just is unable to accept seeing that you have moved on.
Adnan Sami’s reply to years-long trolls
For several years, Adnan Sami has faced criticism and hatred for giving up his Pakistani citizenship and calling India as his home. Trolls often call him a traitor and question his loyalty. In response, Adnan recently compared this hate to an “ex-lover syndrome,” saying that people who haven’t moved on spread negativity. He explained that his decision was personal and based on how badly he was treated by the Pakistani government and not the people. Despite being a known artist, he was never honoured by Pakistan. Now, he proudly calls India his home and continues to create music without any boundaries. In a chat with Bollywood Bubble, he said:
“It’s like an ex-lover. When an ex-lover sees you moving on and getting involved with somebody else, they’ll always come up with reasons to hate you. But the reason why they actually do that is because they still haven’t gotten over you. It’s love, and love manifests in many absurd ways.”
Adnan Sami proudly calls India his home
Adnan Sami, in the past 20 years has said several times that he is proud to call India his home. He often expresses his love for the country on social media and stands up for it during tough times. Recently, during the horrifying attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, he strongly reacted to it by expressing his concern and support for India. According to him, his love for India, comes from the love and respect he gets here. While talking about his migration, he said:
“It is ridiculous for anyone from anywhere to presume that they know what the reasons were behind it. There were solid reasons. At the end of the day, you can argue and say, ‘People are migrating all over the world all the time. Why don’t they have issues with them?’ First of all, because of the geopolitical nature between India and Pakistan, there is a rivalry between the two for whatever reason. But more than that, it is the ex-lover syndrome.”
Why did Adnan Sami leave Pakistan
Over the years, Adnan Sami has mentioned a couple of times that he left Pakistan not because of the people but entirely because of the government of Pakistan. He felt that the love and respect a known artist should get, he did not get that from Pakistan, which is why he decided to leave. He also said that, despite all this, he still loves and respects his Pakistani audience. In his words:
“My issues have always been with the Pakistani government. That’s just the tip of the iceberg. However, let me make it very clear, my audience and people over there have always been very loving. And they still are, and I love them very much even today. I’m very grateful to them for all the love that they’ve given me. For an artist, the biggest nourishment is love. So, from whichever corner of the world they get that love, they will be very grateful for it. My music is for everybody. I have not put any boundaries on my music. You want to listen to it? Most welcome. You don’t want to? Thanks for trying.”
