The East Singhbhum district administration announced a holiday in Jamshedpur for all schools in the district running Classes 1 to 8, including government, private, aided, and minority institutions, for June 20, 2025. The announcement comes in light of a weather alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), which forecasts continuous heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours.
The IMD warning has also raised concerns about waterlogging and a sharp rise in river water levels across the region. Officials fear that such conditions could severely disrupt normal life and jeopardise the safety of residents, particularly school-going children.
Invoking powers under Section 34 of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner issued the directive on Wednesday, emphasising that the order was being enforced in the interest of public safety and as a preventive measure.
The administration confirmed that it will continue to closely monitor the weather developments and issue further instructions if necessary. All heads of educational institutions have been instructed to comply strictly with the directive.
