Elliot Page and his Pageboy Productions are showing love to the documentary A Deeper Love: The Story of Miss Peppermint by signing on as executive producers of the Oriel Pe’er-directed film.
The news comes just days ahead of the 80-minute documentary’s world premiere at Frameline49 in San Francisco on June 26. A Deeper Love examines Peppermint’s transformation from making history on RuPaul’s Drag Race and Broadway (Head Over Heels) as the first out trans woman of color to utilizing her platform as an activist for LGBTQ equality.
The film, which has been in the works for years and features never-before-seen footage, promises to reveal what happened behind the scenes as she first faced the crossroads of scraping together a living through nightly performances or sex work to fund a transition until the opportunity came to compete on Drag Race, a decision that ultimately changed the trajectory of her career. Notable names who appear in the film include Laverne Cox, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Sasha Velour, Shea Couleé, Trace Lysette and Sherry Vine.
In addition to Page and Pageboy, Bob the Drag Queen and his Purse First Studios have also boarded the doc as executive producers. Pe’er served as writer, director and producer with a team that also includes Marc Smolowitz as producer and Peppermint as exec producer. The film will be presented by the Llama Studio in association with 13th Gen, Pageboy Productions and Purse First Studios.
As to why Page got involved, the actor and producer praised Peppermint’s journey as “powerful, urgent and deeply human.” Page added: “Her artistry, courage, and advocacy have changed the landscape for trans performers and inspired so many of us. This documentary captures the full complexity of her experience in a way that feels both intimate and universal. Pageboy is honored to help bring her story to audiences everywhere.”

Said Peppermint: “After nearly a decade of work on this passion project, I’m thrilled to finally share it with the world. Trans issues are in the zeitgeist, yet our full humanity is so often left out of the conversation. This film aims to offer something different — something more honest and personal. Partnering with Pageboy Productions and having Elliot Page join as an executive producer ahead of our world premiere at Frameline49 is truly a dream come true.”
Page and Pageboy are repped by UTA, Vie Entertainment, Yorn Levine and ID-PR. Peppermint is repped by PEG and Buchwald. Bob the Drag Queen is repped by PEG and UTA.
Frameline49 runs June 18-28. The full lineup can be found here.
Pe’er, who said, “Our documentary arrives at a crucial time for trans visibility, offering an unflinching yet hopeful portrait of survival, legacy, and the transformative power of chosen family. The addition of Elliot Page and Page Productions to our core team is an honor, one that we know will uplift this film’s chances of reaching the widest possible audience.”
