Sunjay Kapur and Karisma Kapoor’s wedding in 2003 created a lot of sensation as it was one of the biggest weddings of the year. The couple tied the knot on September 29, 2003, as per Hindu and Sikh rituals in a gurudwara. Sunjay and Karisma had a laavan phere at a gurudwara, followed by a grand ceremony at Karisma’s ancestral home, the Krishna Raj bungalow in Mumbai.

It is reported that Karisma and Sunjay’s wedding was the most glamorous. Many renowned personalities from the glamour, political and business world graced the event. The entire Kapoor clan was present at the event to bless the couple. Not just this, many renowned names from the film industry were in attendance. And one of them was Akshaye Khanna, who was once rumoured to get married to Karisma.

Salman Khan, Govinda, Amrish Puri, Vivek Oberoi, Tabu, Rajesh Khanna, and many others paid their visit and blessed the newlywed couple. Among them was actor, Akshaye Khanna, who was once all set to marry Karisma.

As he met Karisma and Sunjay, Akshaye warmly greeted the couple and kissed Karisma’s hand. The actress shared a great bond with Akshaye and couldn’t hide her happiness meeting Akshaye Khanna. He was accompanied by his brother, Rahul Khanna and his mom, Geetanjali Khanna.

Akshaye Khanna was once almost set to marry Karisma Kapoor

As per multiple reports, Akshaye Khanna and Karisma Kapoor shared a great bond. When Karisma broke up with Ajay Devgn, she found solace in Akshaye, whom she considered a great friend. After some time, the two fell in love with each other, and Randhir Kapoor, too, reportedly gave a green signal to their relationship.

But the alliance didn’t go well with Karisma’s mom, Babita Shivdasani. It was Babita who intervened and didn’t let the marriage happen. As per the reports, Babita was not happy with Karisma getting married as she was at the peak of her career. Akshaye, being a private person, had never talked about his relationship or break-up with Karisma.

Karisma Kapoor’s ugly divorce from Sunjay Kapur

After 11 years of marriage, cracks started appearing in Sunjay and Karisma’s life and they filed a divorce through mutual consent. Karisma and Sunjay’s divorce case turned ugly when she accused the businessman of domestic violence. Reacting to Karisma’s claims, the business tycoon alleged that the actress married him for money and property. Their court battle ran for two years, and in 2016, the duo was granted a divorce.

Sunjay Kapur’s untimely death

On the fateful day of June 12, 2025, Sunjay bid adieu to the world after suffering a cardiac arrest. The 53-year-old business tycoon was playing a game of polo when he collapsed. As per multiple reports, Sunjay Kapur inhaled a bee in the middle of his game, and it stung him, choking his windpipe. Sunjay collapsed after having a cardiac arrest and passed away.
