Jinkx Monsoon will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! starting in August.
Monsoon, known from RuPaul’s Drag Race, takes over the role starting Aug. 4 for an eight-week engagement through Sept. 27. Before Monsoon’s run, Tituss Burgess will play Mary Todd Lincoln from June 23 through Aug. 2.
The role was originated by Cole Escola, who also wrote the play and is currently starring in the Broadway production. Escola, who recently won a Tony Award for their portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln, will play their final performance June 21. Oh, Mary! Director Sam Pinkleton also won a Tony.
Monsoon is currently starring in Pirates! The Penzance musical through July 27, and has previously appeared in Chicago on Broadway and Little Shop of Horrors Off-Broadway.
“Now — I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Cole Escola is the funniest person alive,” Monsoon said. “Oh, Mary! is one of the best, funniest, most energizing things I’ve seen in my life. To be invited to live in this playground for a time is not only an honor and a privilege, but a lovely chance to showcase the writing talents of one friend, the directorial talents of another, and everything else that comes with this singular production. Happy to trade in one pair of bloomers for another.”
Escola opened the show Off-Broadway and on Broadway in July 2024, and then left the role for a brief period this winter (as did many original cast members) before returning in April. Betty Gilpin took on the role from January through mid-March, at which time Burgess took over the role for about a month.
Oh Mary! cast members Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, Bianca Leigh and Tony Macht will remain with the show through August 2. Tickets for the production are on sale through January 2026.
