NEW DELHI: Foreign secretary Vikram Misri on Wednesday clarified that Prime Minister Narendra Modi firmly stated “India has never accepted, and will never accept,” third-party mediation in matters such as the recent counterterrorism action in Pakistan, under “Operation Sindoor“. He added that there is “full political unanimity” on this stand.“PM Modi stressed that India never accepted mediation, it does not accept it now, nor will it ever do that. On this issue, there is full political unanimity,” Misri said during the briefing.Misri noted, “Prime Minister Modi made it clear to President Trump that during this entire episode, at no time, at any level, were issues such as India-US trade deal or mediation by the US between India and Pakistan discussed. The halt to military action was discussed directly between India and Pakistan, through existing channels of the two armies, and was at the request of Pakistan.”He also informed that despite US President Donald Trump‘s early departure from the G7 Summit in Canada, PM Modi held a phone conversation with him, at Trump’s request. The discussion mainly focused on India’s anti-terror action under Operation Sindoor targeting terror bases in Pakistan. The two leaders were earlier scheduled to meet on the sidelines of the summit.During the call, PM Modi told Trump that “India now regards terrorism not as proxy war but actual war.” Trump, in turn, conveyed his condolences over the recent terror attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people. While Trump has previously claimed credit for mediating between India and Pakistan and said he “brokered” a ceasefire to prevent nuclear escalation, PM Modi’s latest comments make India’s position on mediation unequivocally clear.Read: ‘India now regards terrorism not as proxy war but actual war’: PM Modi tells Trump; rejects mediation claims
