Anu Aggarwal is a former Indian actress, who is loved for her roles in movies like Aashiqui, Khal-Naaikaa, The Cloud Door and Thiruda Thiruda. The actress began her career in the glamour world after a short stint in modelling and VJing. She was first seen in the Doordarshan serial, Isi Bahane. Later, she made her debut with the movie, Aashiqui, which made her an overnight sensation.
Anu Aggarwal revealed if she had any kind of competition with her contemporaries like Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit
It was back in 1999 when a car accident changed Anu’s life completely. She was in a coma for 29 days and woke up with no traces of memories from her past life. She later embraced spirituality and now runs a mental health foundation. In a recent interview, Anu Aggarwal talked about her contemporaries, Madhuri Dixit and Sridevi, and whether their widespread fame ended up drying offers for her. Anu was asked if offers had dried up for her. To this, she replied that offers could never dry up as there had been no one like Anu Aggarwal. She further proudly mentioned that ‘Anu had any competition’, to which, the host mentioned the names Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit.
Anu Aggarwal mentioned that doing item songs was not her choice
Talking more about her contemporaries, Anu Agarwal stated that she was not doing the kind of films that Madhuri and Sridevi were doing, and it was solely her choice. She further stated that Sridevi was the top actress of that time, while Madhuri was the second top actress of Bollywood back then. She stated that the kind of films Madhuri or Sridevi did, she didn’t do it.
Anu Aggarwal claimed to have not done the item numbers like Choli Ke Peeche. Sharing why she didn’t do such films like Sridevi or Madhuri, Anu stated that it was not her style because she wanted to do the roles that would make a difference. Anu mentioned that her choice of roles was not limited to where people would dance around the item numbers, and it doesn’t mean that she couldn’t dance or so, but she just didn’t feel it to be her choice.
Anu Aggarwal couldn’t recognise herself in Aashiqui while rewatching it
Anu Aggarwal’s accident turned her world upside down, and she had no memories from her past life. Talking about the same in an interview with Indian Express, Anu recalled the time she re-watched her famous film, Aashiqui. In the interview, she shared that after her accident, her mom played the movie for her, but she couldn’t relate to it at all. She mentioned that she couldn’t connect to it and was just looking at the screen like a baby.
Annu further said that her mom was saying that Anu was on the screen, but it became unrelatable to her. When Anu’s mom told her that the version 2 of her film was out, she was not even able to understand what that meant, as she was not keeping up with the numbers as well. To quote Anu’s words:
“She told me, ‘See this was your film Aashiqui and now they have made Aashiqui 2.’ I asked her, ‘what is 2?’ Because I didn’t know numbers, what was one, two, three. That was my state.”
