When Kate Middleton married into the British royal family in April 2011, she became a mainstay for many royal events throughout the calendar year. The Princess of Wales was unable to attend the 2024 edition of Royal Ascot amid her then-ongoing treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer. While she was anticipated to attend Royal Ascot 2025, Middleton ultimately pulled out of the event, according to a report from People.

2017

For her second showing at Royal Ascot in 2017, Middleton favored a lace look by Alexander McQueen, one of her go-to designers. Unlike other dresses the then-Duchess of Cambridge would fashion in years to come, this dress featured a hemline at the knee.

The dress also included a cinched waist with a belted detail and semi-sheer sleeves and a high neckline to show off the ornate lace detailing, made up of florals ideal for the summertime occasion. Middleton continued the floral motif by coordinating with her hat, which featured a detailed bouquet of florals.

2019

Middleton opted for an icy blue color motif with her 2019 Royal Ascot appearance. The royal wore this Elie Saab design, which features a pussy-bow tie with sheer detailing on the bodice and long sleeves. The skirt of the ensemble featured tulle and polka dots throughout.

Ornately designed detailing was also featured on the bodice of Middleton’s ensemble, which included a coordinated slip, as well. Her hat perfectly matched the ensemble, complementing her outfit in a similar shade of blue with a design by Philip Treacy. The Princess of Wales repurposed this dress in 2023 for a royal garden party.

2022

For the 2022 edition of Royal Ascot, Middleton wore a black and white polka dot dress courtesy of Alessandra Rich. The sleek design featured a high neckline with a ruffled element and long sleeves with cinched cuffs. The dress included a belt at the waist for added silhouette definition.

2023

Middleton’s most recent appearance at Royal Ascot came in 2023, when she wore a fiery red midi dress courtesy of Alexander McQueen. The Princess of Wales coordinated the flowing, long-sleeve dress with statement earrings by Paris brand Sézane and wore a wide-brim hat in a similar shade of red by Philip Treacy.
