Actor Chitrangda Singh recently addressed concerns about the portrayal and objectification of women in the upcoming comedy film Housefull 5. During an interview with Bollywood Hungama, Chitrangda was asked to share her thoughts on the film’s tone and how it aligns with ongoing conversations around gender representation in cinema.

In response, she offered a measured yet firm defense of the film’s genre and intent. “I think every film is a certain kind of film. There’s a genre, there’s a certain tone, there’s a certain meter, which is set for that film,” she explained.

Referring to her co-star Akshay Kumar’s diverse body of work, Chitrangda noted, “Everything that Akshay has done is not Housefull 5. He’s done Pad Man, he’s done Toilet, he’s done Kesari. I’ve also done Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi, Inkaar—very empowered women that I play.”

The actress also reflected on her own past choices, pointing out that performance styles vary with context. “I also did a song called ‘Kafirana’ [from Joker] or ‘Kundi’ [from Gabbar Singh]. That is also a performance for me. It is not like this is who I am, otherwise at home. Sometimes we need to have a sense of humor about things.”

Addressing the broader expectations placed on cinema to constantly make social statements, Chitrangda added, “Not everything can be politically correct, morally correct, socially correct. We can’t always be carrying the baton for everything through a film. It’s supposed to entertain you.”

Drawing parallels with global examples of satirical content, she remarked, “Even a film like Pink Panther, the whole series, people have loved it. It has a huge following. But even there, you’ll find jokes. Like The Simpsons – exactly, The Simpsons is one of the biggest examples. I feel there you’ve got to have a sense of humor about certain things.”
