Five members of a family were severely beaten up by a mob in the Sarai Mamarez area of Prayagraj over a minor parking dispute that escalated into major violence. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, came to light after videos of the assault went viral on social media.

According to reports, Anwar, a resident of the Civil Lines area of Prayagraj, had gone with his family to attend his nephew’s wedding in Sarai Mamarez. A disagreement over parking arrangements with some locals quickly turned ugly and culminated in violence.

In the viral footage, dozens of people could be seen mercilessly thrashing Anwar and other members of his family. Despite the interference by some of the bystanders, the mob continued the assault.

Anwar sustained serious injuries in the attack, while four other family members were also hurt and are currently undergoing treatment at a local hospital. The condition of Anwar is reported to be stable but serious.

Upon receiving information, local police quickly arrived at the scene, brought the situation under control and initiated legal action. Five people have so far been arrested in the incident based on the video and testimonies of the eyewitnesses, said Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP), Pushkar Verma.

“This incident is being taken very seriously. We have already arrested five people and are working to identify the other accused seen in the video. Further arrests will be made soon,” said ADCP Verma.
