Karisma Kapoor’s strained relationship with her ex-husband, Sunjay Kapur re-ignited after he passed away in London, United Kingdom. The news came as a shock as reportedly he died while playing a polo match due to a heart attack. However, there have been claims that reportedly Sunjay swallowed a bee, and it stung his throat, which swelled up his windpipe, causing a fatal heart condition. Now, his last photo surfaced on the internet just hours before his death.

Sunjay Kapur was also a polo patron. After the news of his death surfaced, his last photo, which was posted by the Sujan Indian Tigers Polo Team on their Instagram handle, has been going viral. They paid tribute to their late teammate ahead of the Cartier Trophy final. In the photo, Sunjay was dressed up in a dark blue-toned sweatshirt with ‘UK Polo Season 2025’ written on the left pocket, and an Indian flag emblem on the top of the sleeves. He gave a big smile while hugging captain, Jaisal Singh. It looked like a gesture that said, ‘They got it’.
Along with the picture, the team’s official IG handle penned a heartfelt note. They penned how Sunjay’s tragic death occurred on the field. The photograph was from the semi-finals. The post can be read as:
“Today we play the final of the Cartier Trophy in the memory of our dear friend Sunjay Kapur, who tragically passed away on the field a few days ago. Our Captain and Patron, Jaisal Singh, will mount up with the team to observe a minute’s silence in honour of his dear old friend Sunjay, and then sit out as a mark of respect. This photograph of Sunjay and Jaisal was taken moments before they mounted up to play the semi-finals a few days ago (@polobygarrahan) RIP Sunjay; you will be missed – your tireless enthusiasm and patronage will be remembered forever by the entire polo community.”

As per a report in NDTV, Sunjay Kapur’s funeral might be delayed due to his citizenship. A source close to the family revealed the same. According to insiders, Sunjay Kapur holds US citizenship, and since he passed away in London, the legal process of bringing his body to India might be complicated. As per Sunjay Kapur’s father, Ashok Sachdev the last rites would be performed in Delhi. He said:
“The postmortem is currently underway. Once the paperwork is complete, the body will be brought to India for the last rites.”
According to close sources, Sunjay Kapur was playing polo at the Guards Polo Club when he felt it difficult to breathe and was suffocated mid-game. He requested to stop the game and then left the ground. Soon, he suffered a heart attack and died. An insider also revealed that Sunjay Kapur reportedly swallowed a bee, and it could be that the bee sting in his throat, which caused a heart attack. It is worth noting that Sunay Kapur had a polo team called Aureus, in which he served as a patron. The businessman was playing against Sujan, a team led by a hotelier named Jaisal Singh.
