Filmmaker Mrigdeep Singh Lamba’s Fukrey, the first film in the comedy franchise, completed 12 years yesterday. It has an ensemble cast of Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal, Richa Chadha, Manjot Singh, Pankaj Tripathi and Priya Anand. Varun Sharma spoke about the film on its anniversary.

Your Choocha remains the most popular character in Fukrey
Fukrey is the film which is closest to my heart. A film truly special for me. I got to make my debut with this, and it gave me and the whole team so much love that we all have today.
Choocha deserves a film of his own
I feel fortunate to have played my debut character thrice in the franchise. Always forever indebted and grateful to the audience for showering so much of love and for accepting the film and the characters the way they did.
Was the film as much fun to shoot as it was to watch?
We all had a blast while working on the film. It wasn’t just a crew but we became a family making the fun film together with loads of love and laughter and…what to call it… Fukrapanti happening almost every moment while shooting.
Has Choocha in Fukrey become a hard act to follow up?
Not at all. In fact, I treat it as a blessing to have made my debut with a film like Fukrey. For any actor the biggest challenge is to get the acceptance of the audience and with the grace of God that happened for me with Fukrey. I never thought comedy was my forte before Fukrey and then it became my forte and I absolutely love doing it.
Do you remain friends with the rest of the Fukrey team?
Absolutely! We all started our journey together and we always are in constant touch with each other. It’s never been a co-actor relation among the entire Fukrey gang but a family. We are always looking out for each other and always have each other’s back. I am truly blessed to have made such amazing friends, who are like family for life right from my first film.
Is Fukrey 4 happening?
I really hope so. We have done three films already and I really wish the fourth Instalment happens soon!
