The Ahmedabad plane crash has been leading the headlines with the horrific outcome it had. For the unversed, on June 12, 2025, AI171 faced some issues while being in the air, and later, it crashed into the B.J. Medical College Hostel, claiming 279 lives, including the on-boarded people, students and locals. Now, several revelations and glimpses have been surfacing, making it even more intense. A student who was in the hostel when the plane crashed now recalled how he could escape death, even after being stuck in the debris following the plane’s collapse.
A student of B.J. Medical College survived death even after the flight crashed into their hostel building
The 24-year-old Ritesh Kumar Sharma, who is a second-year MBBS student at B.J. Medical College, was having lunch with his seven friends in their hostel when they heard the loud noise. The Medical College hostel is 3-4 km away from the airport runway, and after the Boeing 787 collapsed on the wall of the Medical College hostel, it ended up claiming a lot of lives, including the passengers, crew members, locals and students.
Ritesh talked to The Times Of India and revealed that he was having lunch at around 1.40 p.m. when he heard the loud noise, and then suddenly, the plane smashed into the building. He shared that the front of the plane pierced straight through the wall of the room where he and his friends were having lunch. He mentioned that two of his friends died instantly under the rubble. In Ritesh’s words:
“I did not understand what had happened at first. We heard a loud noise and suddenly, the plane smashed into the building. The front of it broke straight through the wall and into our mess. Debris and wreckage collapsed onto our table. Two of my friends, who were sitting across from me, vanished under the rubble and died on the spot.”
Talking more about the same, Ritesh shared that he thought he wouldn’t be able to survive this, and both of his legs got stuck under the table where he was sitting. Well, his seniors helped him to get out, and he is still not sure how he survived death. He also revealed that due to excessive heat, the gas cylinders of the mess blasted, and one of his friends who went to bring food there died on the spot. To quote Ritesh:
“Both my legs got stuck under the table. The floor was falling apart. There was smoke, heat and a loud blast. The mess’s gas cylinder exploded due to the intense temperature. One of my friends, who had gone to the kitchen to get food, died there. I thought I would not make it out. They came rushing in and somehow got us out. I still don’t know how I survived.”

The only survivor of the Ahmedabad plane crash
The Ahmedabad plane crash claimed 279 lives, as reported by now. The victims included 12 air hostesses, passengers, some students and a few locals as well. Among everyone, only one passenger could survive. The passenger was seated on 11A, a seat which was next to the emergency exit. Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, the single survivor, revealed that when the plane crashed into the wall, there was a space from where he could escape. After his survival, the 11A seat grabbed a lot of attention, as Thai singer Ruangsak James Loychusak revealed that he, too, once survived a plane crash by sitting on the same seat of a plane.
