As the beloved comedy Fukrey completed 12 years since its release in 2013, actor Ali Fazal and director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba took to social media to celebrate the milestone with throwback memories and heartfelt messages. The film, which has gone on to become one of the most popular comedy franchises in Hindi cinema, marked its anniversary with nostalgia and gratitude.
Ali Fazal celebrates 12 years of Fukrey with nostalgic BTS photos
Sharing unseen behind-the-scenes photos from the sets of the original Fukrey, Ali Fazal penned a warm note thanking the entire team for believing in the quirky project. He wrote, “12 years ago we blasted out into the scene. Thank you to the team of @excelmovies and of course @ritesh_sid & @faroutakhtar for championing a bunch of whackos like us… on a film like this.. to many more place holders in history. To @mriglamba : I owe you big. More than just for fukrey.” Along with many photos, he also shared a cute photo with his now-wife Richa Chadha as he met the latter on the sets of the 2013 comic caper.
Director Mrighdeep Singh Lamba, too, marked the occasion by sharing a nostalgic post, simply writing, “12 Saal hogaye fukrey ko” along with a series of unseen throwback images featuring the core cast on and off the sets.
The original Fukrey, produced by Excel Entertainment, featured Pulkit Samrat, Varun Sharma, Ali Fazal, Manjot Singh, and Richa Chadha in lead roles. The film followed a group of aimless Delhi boys who try to make a quick buck, only to find themselves tangled in the web of a local gangster, Bholi Punjaban (played by Richa Chadha). The quirky humor, authentic setting, and endearing characters won over audiences and turned the film into a sleeper hit.
Over the years, the Fukrey franchise expanded with Fukrey Returns (2017) and Fukrey 3 (2023), both of which saw the return of the original cast and continued the adventures of Hunny, Choocha, Zafar, and Lali. The most recent installment, Fukrey 3, was also well-received for staying true to the franchise’s comic roots while experimenting with new plot twists.
On Saturday, Pulkit Samrat also paid tribute to the film on its 12th anniversary by sharing a heartfelt video montage of his journey as Hunny, further highlighting the personal connection each actor continues to hold with the franchise.
With consistent fan love and continued relevance, Fukrey remains a standout example of how a small film with big heart can leave a lasting legacy.
