Laughter Chefs 2 contestant, Reem Shaikh has been hogging the limelight for all the wrong reasons. This is because she had an ignorant behaviour towards the recent Ahmedabad plane crash that took place on June 12, 2025, reportedly killing 274 people- 241 passengers and 33 on the ground. It was outside the sets of the cooking reality show when a pap asked the actress to speak about the plane crash incident, to which she looked clueless on what had happened. Now, Reem had to break her silence as she was brutally trolled on social media.
Reem Shaikh opens up on her ignorant behaviour towards the Ahmedabad plane crash
Reem was called insensitive, inhuman, and it was said that her life just revolved inside the vanity van, and her behaviour was as if she was on a different planet. Now, the actress, a while back, took to her Instagram stories to tell all to stop trolling her for not knowing about the plane crash. She revealed how her real sister is a cabin crew member with Air India, and the actress was the first one to know about the news. Reem, on her Instagram story, wrote:
“My sister flies for Air India. My real sister. When the crash happened, I was one of the first to know. I’ve watched her break down, sitting at home, crying, mourning the loss of her fellow crew members. This isn’t just a headline for me; it’s deeply personal. This loss has hit close to home in ways I can’t even explain. My sister works with these people. I’ve seen her cry for them and I have cried with her.”
Reem Shaikh reveals that she cannot show her emotions related to the plane crash in front of the camera
The actress told her fans not to judge someone’s heart based on a brief moment they saw on camera. She spoke that it is a time of mourning as a tragedy took place, and it has to be dealt with compassion and not by tearing each other down. Reem also revealed that she avoids standing and talking to the media. She shared that those who are calling her insensitive need to understand that she can’t bring herself to grieve publicly in front of the cameras only to turn around and act carefree later. That’s not her and she cannot process pain. In her words:
“Secondly, the pap who asked me said, “Kal ke baare mein kuch bolo” not “Kal ke plane crash ke baare mein bolo.” It’s heartbreaking how quickly assumptions are made. If I seemed distant, it wasn’t because I didn’t care. It was because I wasn’t asked about the tragedy directly, and I wasn’t going to start speaking about something so sensitive without being asked specifically.”
How did the Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner crash?
It was on June 12, 2025, when Air India Boeing 787 Dreamliner took off at 1.38 pm from Ahmedabad International Airport for London. Within 38 seconds, the plane crashed at BJ Medical College located in the Meghani area. A report by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) stated that 242 people were on the aircraft- 230 passengers, 2 pilots, along with 10 cabin crew. Late Capt Sumeet Sabharwal, along with late First Officer, Clive Kundar. Capt Sumeet had more than 8, 200 hours of flying experience and First Officer, Clive had more than 1,200 hours of flying experience.
