Bollywood actress Wamiqa Gabbi has predominantly worked in Hindi and Punjabi films and web series, and in recent years, she has become a popular name after her impressive performance in projects like Jubilee, Modern Love Mumbai, and most recently, Bhool Chuk Maaf. In a recent interview with Times Now and Zoom, the actress talked about the time when she was so high on energy that she even worked for 38 hours while shooting for multiple projects.
Wamiqa Gabbi recalls working for 38 hours in three shifts
Wamiqa Gabbi opened up about her experience working on different projects. Speaking about her work, the actress recalled working unexpectedly long shifts of up to 38 hours while shooting for Modern Love Mumbai and Jubilee. Remembering the grind of her initial days as an actor, Wamiqa shared:
“Right now, I am enjoying my work. I have worked 38 hours also, in three shifts. Say I did a morning shift for one project, and I did another one at night. I am doing it happily because this is the start of my career, and I have all the energy to do it. I am happily doing whatever I am getting. There are no responsibilities on my head. Whatever I am earning is enough to take care of myself and my loved ones. I can afford to do this at this stage because I am free and have no family responsibility.”
Whether a newcomer or an experienced actor, working 38 hours straight can severely impact both physical and mental well-being. In light of Deepika Padukone’s recent fallout with Sandeep Reddy Vanga over her 8-hour shift request, Wamiqa’s revelation might come as a surprise. Explaining why she didn’t voice concerns, Wamiqa shared that most filmmakers are considerate of personal issues and foster a family-friendly environment on set. In fact, shoots are sometimes delayed or even cancelled to accommodate an actor’s personal needs. The actress added:
“I have seen filmmakers who support those who have those issues. Sometimes, shoots get cancelled because someone has a personal reason. Some sets tell human stories.”
Wamiqa Gabbi explains why she didn’t speak up about her long work shifts
Wamiqa Gabbi opened up about her exhausting 38-hour work shift, revealing that it happened while she was simultaneously shooting for two major projects, Modern Love Mumbai with Vishal Bhardwaj and Jubilee with Vikramaditya Motwane. Although she had acted before, these projects marked a turning point in her career, positioning her as a rising star. Despite knowing that speaking up could have eased her workload, Wamiqa chose to stay silent, eager to prove herself in such prestigious projects. The Sixteen actress was quoted as saying:
“This was Modern Love Mumbai, I was shooting with Vishal sir and Jubilee with Vikramaditya Motwane. Do you think I would not be excited to hop between Vishal Sir and Vikram Sir? I didn’t tell them because I knew if I told them, they’d adjust the shoot schedule to accommodate my rest periods.”

The ongoing debate surrounding the long working hours of actors
The issue of long working hours in the film industry has resurfaced after Deepika Padukone exited Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit when her request for an 8-hour shift as a new mother was reportedly denied. This incident has reignited discussions on harsh working conditions in the industry, with actors like Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Radhika Apte expressing their support for the Pathaan actress.
