Yamunanagar: Acting on precise intelligence inputs, the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA)-1 team of Yamunanagar Police arrested a man accused of stealing cash and jewellery from the historical Gurdwara Sahib Patshahi Nauvin in the village of Jhiverheri of the Yamunanagar district. The arrest was announced by DSP Rajesh Kumar during a press briefing, where he confirmed that under the guidance of Superintendent of Police Surendra Bhoria, swift police action led to a significant breakthrough in the case.According to DSP Kumar, the accused, identified as Karamjeet alias Sandeep, a resident of village Satsisi in Sri Ganganagar district, Rajasthan, was arrested near Khan Ahmadpur bus stand in Ambala. CIA-1 in-charge Virendra Walia received a tip-off about the suspect’s movements and promptly formed a team led by sub-inspector Sukhdev Singh, along with ASI Vinod, and constables Sandeep, Ravi Kumar, Baljinder, and Amarjeet. The team apprehended Karamjeet from the location.During questioning, he confessed to the theft that took place in the early hours of June 9 at Gurdwara Patshahi Nauvin, Jhiverheri. He had been serving there as a sevadar (volunteer caretaker) for about a month. On the night of the incident, around 1:30 am, he allegedly broke into the gurdwara’s storage area and stole Rs 11.80 lakh in cash, Rs 20,150 worth of foreign currency, $ 500, 150 euros, three gold bangles, 14 gold rings, silver items, and a motorcycle.The theft came to light after gurdwara head Sant Kashmir Singh filed a police complaint stating the valuables were missing when he awoke the next morning. Following this, a case was registered and assigned to the Crime Branch-1 for investigation.DSP Kumar confirmed that following the arrest, the team recovered a significant portion of the stolen items: Rs 9,27,300 in cash, 14 gold rings, three gold bangles, and the stolen motorcycle. Efforts are underway to recover the remaining stolen foreign currency during the remand period.“This case demonstrates the efficiency and responsiveness of our police force. The accused took advantage of his position as a ‘sewadar’ to gain access and commit the crime, but the Crime Branch acted swiftly to bring him to justice,” the DSP said.The investigation remains ongoing, and further recoveries are expected as the accused continues to be interrogated in police custody.
