Sabrina Carpenter is calling out the nonsense when it comes to her personal life.
The pop superstar shared in a new interview just how difficult it is to navigate a breakup in the public eye.
“You’re like, ‘That didn’t happen then. That did happen then. You’re missing a few key details there,’” the “Nonsense” singer told Rolling Stone for her cover story, which featured a barely-there photo shoot.
“People underestimate how tricky it is to navigate being a young woman, having relationships, and then having a bunch of strangers have opinions on them.”
Carpenter, 26, was recently in a high-profile relationship with actor Barry Keoghan, but it was confirmed that the former couple had called it quits in December 2024.
“They are both young and career-focused,” an insider told People of why they decided to take a break.
However, the rumor mill was then buzzing that Keoghan, 32, may have cheated on the “Espresso” singer, leading the “Saltburn” star to deactivate his Instagram account amid all of the hate he received.
An influencer named Breckie Hill fanned the flames at the time with social media posts that appeared to hint she had been staying at the same places the Irish actor visited at the same time as him.
Although Keoghan did not directly address the infidelity claims, he called out those who were allegedly “intimidating” his young son, Brando, whom he shares with ex-girlfriend Alyson Sandro.
“I need you to [remember] he has to read ALL of this about his father when he is older. Please be respectful to all,” he wrote via X last December.
Hill, for her part, then shot down any claims she ever hooked up Keoghan, claiming they had never even met in real life and she had only just seen him on TV.
Carpenter, meanwhile, remained mum on the matter and continued to promote her work projects.
The “Please, Please” singer further reflected with Rolling Stone what it is like to have a “microscope” on her and having a multitude of people comment on her personal relationships.
“I know it’s a tale as old as time. It’s just unfortunate that it’s still a tale,” she said.
When asked to clarify her current relationship status, Carpenter replied, “Am I doing the single thing right now? I’m doing the 25-year-old thing right now, whatever that means.”
