NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party slammed Bangladesh’s interim government led by Muhammad Yunus for not taking action against protesters who vandalised Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house and claimed that the “pre-planned” attack was carried out by Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam. While addressing a presser on Thursday, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra urged the whole world to condemn the attack on Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house. The mob attacked Tuesday on Rabindra Kachharibari in Sirajganj’s Shahjadpur upazila following a dispute between staff and a local visitor regarding motorcycle parking, according to Daily star.In the presser, Patra said, “Today’s topic is about Bangladesh. We are not intruding on any international domain. But this is the topic of Rabindranath Tagore, so the BJP takes it very seriously and sensitively. On Tuesday, Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house, located in Bangladesh, was attacked and damaged…” “His Kacharibari, built by his grandfather, has been attacked. We are getting to know that the people of Jamaat-e-Islami and Hefazat-e-Islam carried out this attack. It is also coming to light that this was a pre-planned attack,” he added. He also said that the BJP is making a global call that all countries that value morality, creativity, culture, should come together to condemn what has happened in Bangladesh.“The behaviour of the Bangladesh interim government of Muhammad Yunus is not proper. No action has been taken yet. They could not protect such a significant international monument. A deplorable message goes out to the world. BJP condemns this behaviour of the interim government,” the BJP spokesperson said. Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house attacked in BangladeshA mob attacked the Rabindranath Tagore’s ancestral house following a dispute between staff and a local visitor regarding motorcycle parking on Sunday, according to police and local sources.Around 11:30am, Tiuesday, the assailants, primarily young individuals, forced their way through the entrance and damaged the auditorium, doors, and windows, according to Habibur Rahman, the Kachharibari’s custodian.The memorial museum dedicated to the Nobel laureate, housed within the mansion, remained intact.“Visitors present at the site were frightened by the unexpected attack. We sought shelter and contacted police immediately,” Habibur stated.“Staff members attempted to prevent the attackers from reaching the museum. Police arrived promptly and intervened. Five to six individuals, including staff, sustained injuries during the incident,” he added.Shahjadpur Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Aslam Ali, confirmed the attack resulted from a Sunday dispute over motorcycle parking outside the Kachharibari. He reported no significant damage and confirmed police deployment at the site.Following the incident, the museum ceased operations. Several visitors from distant districts were unable to access the site.Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Kamruzzaman termed it a criminal offence, stating they advised the Kachharibari authority to register a police complaint and implemented security measures at the archaeological site.Prince Dwarkanath Tagore, Rabindranath’s grandfather, acquired the Shahzadpur estate from Natore’s Zamindar Rani Bhabani in 1840, predating the poet’s birth.Rabindranath, upon assuming estate management responsibilities, visited Shahjadpur multiple times, residing at the Kachharibari mansion periodically over several years.
