In a shocking turn of events, Boeing’s Dreamliner safety record broke after a fatal crash of an Air India Boeing 787-8 operating as ‘Flight AI 171’. The flight crashed after the take-off, and before help could be sent or any issue could be found out, it lost contact with air traffic control. It plummeted into the Meghani Nagar residential area and crashed into a doctor’s hostel. Amidst the prayers, cries and pain, Tata Group issued an important statement lending their support to the victims of the fatal accident.
Tata Group announces giving Rs. 1 crore as an aid to the families of victims, who died in the Air India crash
The aircraft was bound for London Gatwick, before it lost contact just minutes after the departure. Tata Sons Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, expressed condolences to the families affected and lives lost in the crash. The post can be read as:
“We are deeply anguished by the tragic event involving Air India Flight 171. No words can adequately express the grief we feel at this moment. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones, and with those who have been injured.”
On behalf of the Tata Group, he assured of providing Rs. 1 crore to each family who has lost their loved ones. While money cannot substitute lives, it is a way of showing they care. The post further revealed that all the medical expenses of those injured in the accident would be covered by the Tata Group. It also stated that they would be providing support to build up BJ Medical’s hostel. It read:
“Tata Group will provide Rs. 1 crore to the families of each person who has lost their life in this tragedy. We will also cover the medical expenses of those injured and ensure that they receive all necessary care and support. Additionally, we will provide support in the building up of the B J Medical’s hostel.”
Who is the sole survivor of the Air India crash?
Ramesh Vishwaskumar is the 38-year-old British Indian, who was among the 242 people onboard the ill-fated Air India Flight AI 171, which crashed seconds after take off. It has killed over 200 people. Ramesh was seated in seat 11A, which was located right behind the emergency exit of the flight.

Ramesh Vishwaskumar was returning to London after he visited family in Gujarat with his brother, Ajay Kumar Ramesh, whose whereabouts are not yet known. In an interview with News 18, Ramesh recalled the horrific plane crash he witnessed and revealed that there were bodies all around him and there were pieces of the plane. He was quoted as saying:
“There were bodies all around me, there were pieces of the plane all around me. Someone grabbed hold of me and put me in an ambulance.
In a clip that surfaced on the internet, the survivor was seen walking towards the ambulance as bystanders were questioning him about the crash. Ramesh further recalled the horrific crash and stated that within 30 seconds, there was a loud noise, and in the blink of an eye, the plane crashed.
