Darr, released in 1993, starred Juhi Chawla and Sunny Deol in the lead roles. However, it was Shah Rukh Khan’s intense portrayal of the antagonist in the film which made it a cult classic. The film was a defining moment in his career. However, Aamir Khan recently talked about how he was almost a part of the film but was kicked out by director, Yash Chopra. Though Aamir did not divulge which role he was supposed to play, but the reason why he was fired is pretty interesting.
Aamir Khan said that he was fired from Darr by Yash Chopra
Aamir Khan, in a recent interview with Zoom, was asked about rejecting the cult-classic Darr. The actor said that he had not rejected the film but was actually fired by the director, Yash Chopra. Aamir said that he has a principle of asking for joint narration from the director if a movie features more than one main lead actor. He had done the same with Darr and had asked for a joint narration from Yash Chopra since the film had two male leads. It was this demand that got him fired from the film, claimed Aamir Khan. In his own words, he said:
“Darr ko main na nahi bola tha, Darr ko maine haa bola tha. Mujhe Darr se nikala gaya tha.”
Aamir Khan further stated that everyone has different working styles, and he believes that everyone should have joint narrations. However, Yash Raj Chopra was not of the same opinion, so he fired him. The actor said that he had also wanted a joint narration for his film alongside Salman Khan, which was Andaz Apna Apna. In the same interview, Aamir said:
“Yash ji did not want to do that, so he fired me. Everyone has their own way of working. I think when two people are working together, they should listen to the narration together, so we can work together as a team. They should all listen to the film together. That didn’t happen in Darr, so I was fired.”

Aamir Khar did not reveal which role he was supposed to play in the film
In the interview, Aamir Khan spilled the beans on being fired from Darr, but did not reveal which of the two male lead roles he was supposed to play. For the unversed, Sunny Deol portrayed the role of ‘Sunil Malhotra’, an SF officer, while Shah Rukh Khan played the role of the antagonist and stalker, ‘Rahul Mehra’.

People are now curious to know which role Aamir Khan was supposed to play out of the two. It would have been interesting to see him play the villain role which became popular for its intensity and made Shah Rukh Khan a household name. Otherwise, if he had been cast as the hero of the film, then both Khans would have shared the screen together, which would have made the film even more iconic. To note, Aamir and Shah Rukh have done films with Salman Khan but not yet with each other.
