Genelia Deshmukh is set to appear in the upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, where she will portray Aamir Khan’s wife. In a recent interview with Filmymantra Media, she shared how the film industry responded positively when her casting was announced. However, she criticized Bollywood for not offering her enough opportunities after her marriage. She also disclosed that she auditioned three times for Aamir Khan’s film and expressed hope that, going forward, the right actors will be chosen for the right roles.

Genelia said, “When people found out I was doing Sitaare Zameen Par, everyone said, ‘Oh my god! So lucky! You’re doing an Aamir Khan film!’ I said, of course, that’s the greatness of Aamir sir—he saw something in me and made me audition. But you could do that too, right? You could also offer me a role.”
She continued, “But you go as per the norms. Maybe you think I’m married, so I don’t need this character. I just feel filmmaking has changed, and so should our mentality. It’s very important that if you want a character of a certain age, you should cast someone of that age. When we cast an actor who’s much younger than the character I played, they can’t understand the little-little things of it. It’s important to cast right. And I hope opportunities go everyone’s way.”
Sitaare Zameen Par, a Hindi remake of the Spanish film Campeones, stars Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh as characters in their early 40s. Although Aamir is 60, he has addressed concerns about the age difference, highlighting how modern technology and changing audience attitudes are transforming the way age gaps in casting are perceived in cinema.
R.S. Prasanna, the director known for Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, is at the helm of Sitaare Zameen Par, which marks Aamir Khan’s comeback to the big screen after breaks caused by the pandemic and the commercial performance of Laal Singh Chaddha. At a recent press event, Aamir shared that the powerful story was what drew him back. He explained that he has a compulsive nature—once something gets into his bloodstream, he can’t stay away.
Set to release in June 2025, Sitaare Zameen Par is expected to be an emotional, coming-of-age drama starring Aamir Khan and Genelia Deshmukh. Though their on-screen pairing may seem unexpected, it holds great potential to engage and captivate audiences.
