Divya Dutta, as an actress, has always broken barriers with her portrayal of unconventional and strong female characters. In her real life as well, she has defied norms and lived her life on her own terms. The actress has kept much of her personal life private, but she had once been engaged, which broke off later. Divya Dutta was engaged to a non-actor in 2005 

Divya Dutta made her on-screen debut with the film, Ishq Mein Jeena Ishq Mein Marna in 1994. Around 2005 she had already made a name for herself and had become a popular face in the film industry. It was also during this time that Divya was engaged to Lt. Commander Sandeep Shergill in May 2005, as per reports. The ex-couple had exchanged rings in Chandigarh.

Soon after, there were reports floating around that the two had broken off the engagement. Divya Dutta had not denied the reports but had instead said that she would talk about it when she was ready. Around 2 decades later, the actress has yet not opened up about the reason for her split from her ex-fiance. There were also rumours abuzz that she was actually married to Lt. Sandeep. Divya said to India Forums about these rumours:

“It has been very embarrassing explaining to people that Sandeep and I only got engaged in Chandigarh last year. Is there no difference between engagement and marriage?”

Divya Dutta was reportedly close to one of her co-stars, which might have led to the split 

Around the time of her engagement, Divya Dutta made her TV debut with the sitcom, Shanno Ki Shaadi. In the show, she starred opposite actor, Vikas Bhalla. The co-stars were reported to be cosy with each other. As per sources, their growing closeness was the reason for her broken engagement. However, Divya had stated to India Forums that she and LT. Sandeep had only gotten engaged because their families had wanted them to. To note, the actress has never addressed the rumours surrounding her relationship with Vikas Bhalla, who is now married to Prem Chopra’s daughter, Punita. 

Divya Dutta had once said that she had men in her life but was in no hurry for marriage 

Divya Dutta’s elusive love life has always been of interest to people. The actress has also been asked about her marriage plans in many interviews. When asked about the same in a 2019 interview with The Times of India, Divya shared that she was in no hurry to get married. She had further stated that she went on dates and had men in her life but did not plan to tie the knot anytime soon. She had also defined the right man for her in the interview and said:

“You know people ask me who’s your right kind of man and I was thinking that there’s no right or wrong guy. It just has to be somebody who makes you feel good about yourself that is the right guy for you. If you feel comfortable being with him, if he makes you feel happy, then he’s the one for you.”

Divya Dutta had said that she had left everything to fate 

Divya Dutta was in no hurry to get married back then, but she had left everything to fate. She had believed that whatever was destined to would happen for her. The actress also said that with her brother, his wife and their kid, she had a complete family and was happy. Divya also laughed and said that she already had a happy life and had some attractive men as her friends with whom she liked to go out. Talking about her life, Divya had said in the same interview:

“I’m in no hurry to get married too because hurry kar ke kuchh nahi hone wala. Jab hona hota hai toh ho hi jaata hai. I’ve left it to fate now. I have a complete family with my brother, his wife and their kid. Abhi usmein khush hoon. It’s not as if I lead a boring life (laughs). I have a very happening one, in fact. I have some very attractive men as friends and I go out with them often.”

Divya Dutta recently revealed that she does not want to get married

In a recent interview with Hindi Rush, Divya Dutta revealed that she does not want to get married. The actress said that she gets male attention and enjoys that but thinks that a relationship should be based on a connection. Divya said that she does not want to get married, but would love a companion. However, the actress does not think that she can be complete only when she has a partner.
