Tamil actor Suriya has started shooting for his new film, tentatively titled ‘Suriya 46’, which is being directed by Venky Atluri of ‘Lucky Bhaskar’ fame. The makers announced the update on their social media along with a poster featuring Suriya. The film also stars Mamitha Baiju of ‘Premalu’ fame alongside Suriya.

In an X post by Sithara Entertainments, the production house backing the film, the caption read, “The first step towards celebration, emotion and entertainment. ‘Suriya 46’ shoot begins!” They made the announcement along with a poster featuring Suriya in a stylish semi-formal get-up, as the text on the poster read, “and the Celebration begins”

Suriya was recently seen in Hyderabad with his daughter Diya. He reached Hyderabad on Sunday and attended the wedding reception of Nagarjuna’s younger son, Akhil Akkineni, and Zainab Ravdjee. He was accompanied by Telugu director Venky Atluri here as well.

‘Suriya 46’ also features Radhika Sarathkumar and Raveena Tandon in prominent roles alongside Suriya and Mamitha Baiju. The music for the film is being composed by GV Prakash Kumar, while Nimish Ravi handles cinematography. The film is being produced by Naga Vamsi under the banner Sithara Entertainments.

Venky Atluri’s ‘Lucky Bhaskar’ was a superhit at the box office upon its release in October 2024, grossing over Rs 110 crore at the worldwide box office. The film featured Dulquer Salmaan and Meenakshi Chaudhary in lead roles. The film was also well appreciated by critics, who called it a neatly written and exceptionally enacted drama about financial frauds.

Suriya was last seen in the Tamil film ‘Retro’, directed by Karthik Subbaraj. The film also starred Pooja Hegde, Joju George, Jayaram, Prakash Raj and Vidhu. Despite high expectations ahead of its release, the film faced mixed word-of-mouth and stiff competition from other new releases, ultimately delivering a decent box office performance.
