Vikas grew up watching his dad’s real estate business, and after completing his schooling, he joined his father’s office at Nariman Point, Maharashtra. Vikas completed his higher education at Jai Hind College in Mumbai and later completed his degree in the Owner/President Management programme at the prestigious Harvard Business School.
In the early 1990s, Vikas joined his father’s business and took over his dad’s company, Oberoi Realty Ltd. Presently, he is the chairman and managing director of Oberoi Realty Ltd. In 2010, Vikas won the True Entrepreneur of the Year award at the Economic Times ACETECH Awards. After 8 years, he received the Best Successor – 2nd Generation award at the Hindustan Times Mumbai Real Estate Awards.

On August 27, 2025, Vikas tied the knot with Gayatri Joshi. At that time, Gayatri was the rising star of Bollywood and rose to prominence with her debut film, Swades. But, after her marriage with Vikas, she left acting. In a past interview, she revealed that she had quit acting to take care of her family and children. The couple is now proud parents of two sons, Vihaan and Yuva.

In October 2023, Vikas and his wife and former actress, Gayatri, made the headlines for a car accident in Italy that took away the lives of a Swiss couple. The couple was on vacation when this fatal accident took place. According to multiple reports, the tragic incident occurred after two sports cars, a Lamborghini and a Ferrari, collided. Vikas was driving the Lamborghini and was a suspect in the accident case.
There was a report by Daily Mail, that claimed Vikas had been under an investigation of ‘double road homicide’ opened by the prosecutors of Sardinia’s Cagliari. Later, a source close to Vikas told CNBC TV18 that there have been ‘no charges’ filed against Vikas Oberoi in the Italy car crash case. Later, Oberoi Realty issued a statement where they mentioned that Vikas and his wife, Gayatri, had met with an accident in Sardinia, Italy, on October 2, 2023, and returned back home in Mumbai safely.
