Stone Island and New Balance have tackled running, soccer and lifestyle — ample lifestyle — since beginning their partnership in 2021, and they’re now adding to their repertoire of sports with a skateboarding shoe inspired by the nautical.

The Stone Island x New Balance Numeric 272 elevates the long-running skate shoe with another example of the innovative materials the Italian brand specializes in. Available in three colorways — yellow, blue and white — the shoe sees its upper split into two distinct regions. The lower portion is made up of a premium suede, while higher up appears a stitch-and-turn poly canvas with light-reactive properties.

This same material is used again for the “N” logo, and the tongue has been reengineered in TPU with raised striping and Stone Island Marina branding. A newly rubberized heel counter provides an additional protrusion with the same branding applied in the two-color mould process. Aluminum eyelets on the sneaker’s lateral side bring another subtle sailing connection, and each pair is then packaged in a dry bag with a signal whistle to lean into the theme even further.

New Balance launched the Numeric 272 in 2013, and the vulcanized sneaker has been a staple of its skateboarding line ever since. Its grippy, non-mark outsole is engineered to enhance board feel at the forefoot and reduce impact at the heel.

In April, veteran pro skater Andrew Reynolds was given his first New Balance Numeric signature skate shoe after the majority of his career was spent with Emerica. His 933 incorporates the essence of the 993, making it look more like a dad shoe than one made for skateboarding.

The Stone Island x New Balance Numeric 272 will release on June 18 through Stone Island’s website and select locations of its stores. Sign-ups for the release are also open now on Stone Island’s store. Pricing has not yet been confirmed.
