Shah Rukh Khan’s wife, Gauri Khan, has rented a flat in Mumbai’s Khar West for her staff to stay in while their iconic home, Mannat, undergoes renovation. The apartment is in Pankaj Society, a popular residential area, and is located just 100 metres away from another duplex she had rented previously.
Gauri Khan rents Khar West flat for staff, pays Rs 1.35 lakh rent amid Mannat renovation
According to lease documents obtained from Zapkey.com, the flat measures 725 sq ft and is located on the 4th floor (Flat No. 6). It has been rented from Sanjay Kishor Ramani for Rs 1.35 lakh per month, with a security deposit of Rs 4.05 lakh. The rental agreement spans three years and includes a 5 percent increase in rent each year.
In April, Gauri also rented two duplexes in Khar’s Pali Hill area for Rs 8.67 crore on a three-year lease.
Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri Khan’s Mumbai residence, Mannat, is about to get even more extravagant. Reports suggest that two additional floors might be added to the already impressive bungalow. Mannat is a well-known landmark and a popular tourist attraction in Mumbai. Famous for its opulence, this sea-facing property is estimated to be valued at around Rs 200 crore.
According to Mid-day reports, Gauri Khan has applied to the coastal authorities for permission to add two more floors to their existing residence. While Mannat is a heritage bungalow built in 1914, the Khans also reside in a connected six-storey modern building within the same complex. The new plan proposes expanding this building to eight storeys. The estimated cost of the construction is a staggering Rs 225 crore, according to the report.
In a previous radio interview, Shah Rukh Khan shared that he bought Mannat because his mother-in-law, Savita Chhibber, found their first home—a penthouse—too small. SRK explained, “I am from Delhi. Delhiites are used to living in big houses. But in Mumbai, there is a concept of living in an apartment. Even if one is not rich in Delhi, he tries to buy a small bungalow.” He added, “When I came to Mumbai, I lived in a small apartment with my wife Gauri. My mother-in-law used to say to me, ‘How do you live in such a small house?’”
Shah Rukh Khan said that when he first saw Mannat, what immediately struck him was how much it reminded him of the houses in Delhi. “I decided to buy Mannat on the spur of the moment,” he shared. He purchased Mannat around Gauri Khan’s birthday in 2001, taking a significant loan from the bank to afford the property. Due to budget constraints, Gauri Khan personally took charge of designing the house’s interiors.
