Roger Federer posted a heartwarming message after Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner’s epic French Open final on Sunday, June 8 at Rolan Garros. Alcaraz staged a stunning comeback to win his second consecutive French Open title by beating Sinner in a match that was full of twists and turns and lasted for five hours and 29 minutes.
This was the longest final in the history of French Open and had fans and former players raving about the performance from both men on Sunday. Till that point, the Italian hadn’t lost a set in the competition and the odds were stacked against Alcaraz. However, the 22-year-old was able to dig deep into his arsenal and produced a response that left the World No.1 stunned.
He broke him in the third set to come back into the contest and then saved three championship points in the fourth one. In the decider, Alcaraz’ drop shots came to his aid as he seemed to be on the cusp of the title with the score at 5-4.
But Sinner fought back to force into a super tie-break as the fans were unsure who will emerge victorious in the end. Then Alcaraz produced his best bit of tennis in the match to leave everyone in the arena stunned and take home his 5th grand slam title.
