Chris Evans got candid about the extra-special gesture he made while proposing to his wife, Alba Baptista.
“I proposed to my wife in Portuguese,” the “Captain America” star told the Knot Saturday on the red carpet for his new movie, “Materialists.”
“She’s Portuguese, so I learned how to say ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese. I had practiced it all week.”
Evans explained that because the phrase had been stuck in his head for days before the proposal, he almost let it slip while making breakfast.
“Like, ‘Oh God, that’s not just a song that’s stuck in my head! It’s gonna let the cat out of the bag,” he quipped.
“I got really nervous when it came time to do it. I actually think I screwed it up, but I still know it.”
Baptista and Evans — who sparked romance rumors in 2022 — tied the knot in an intimate ceremony at their Massachusetts home in September 2023, Page Six exclusively revealed.
An insider told us that the duo’s wedding was “locked down tight,” with guests, including his co-stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth and Scarlett Johansson, having to sign NDAs and give up their phones.
A source also told us that the couple would be hosting a second wedding ceremony in Portugal with the “Warrior Nun” alum’s family.
While abroad, the pair bumped into Meghan Markle and Prince Harry at a bar or restaurant.
Evans and Baptista initially kept quiet about their nuptials until the “Avengers” star proudly flaunted his wedding band at New York Comic Con that October.
During the event, he also shared details on their “two ceremonies.”
“They were just … wonderful and beautiful. It’s a lot planning a wedding — for those of you who are married you know, it takes a lot out of you,” he said during a panel.
“But now that we’re through that, we’ve just kind of been enjoying life, gearing up for autumn — my favorite season. It’s, like, the best time of year right now.”
Months later, Evans and Baptista made their red carpet debut at the Vanity Fair Oscars party in March 2024.
