Coco Gauff celebrated wholeheartedly with her parents after claiming her maiden French Open title. On Saturday, Gauff battled for two hours and 38 minutes to win the women’s singles final 6-7, 6-2, 6-4 against World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

After securing the victory, Gauff ran to her parents, Candy and Corey, who were both present at the venue, cheering for their daughter. Her joy knew no bounds as she captured another major title – having previously won the US Open in 2023, also by defeating Sabalenka in the final.

Coco’s mother was seen praying moments before bursting into celebration as Coco crossed the finish line in the thrilling match.

Gauff entered the tournament after suffering back-to-back final losses on clay in Madrid and Rome. In Madrid, Sabalenka had beaten her in straight sets. At Roland Garros, Gauff fell behind early in the first set, going down a double break as Sabalenka looked poised to take control.

However, Gauff fought back, recovering both breaks and then securing two more to force a tie-break. She raced to a 3-0 lead in the tie-breaker and appeared to be in command, but Sabalenka surged back to claim the set.

In the second and third sets, the 21-year-old Gauff raised her level and gave Sabalenka little opportunity to mount a comeback. In the end, an unforced backhand error from Sabalenka sealed the match in Gauff’s favour.

Gauff earned as many as nine breaks of serve to dominate Sabalenka, although she dropped her serve six times. Sabalenka also didn’t make life easy for herself after making 70 unforced errors, as many as 40 more than Gauff’s tally.

With the victory, Gauff became the first player since the legendary Serena Williams in 2015 to win the French Open title. She also became the youngest player to win both the US Open and Roland Garros women’s singles titles since Serena in 2002.
