Deepika Padukone was removed from Prabhas starrer Spirit, after she made some ‘odd’ demands according to the film’s director, Sandeep Reddy Vanga. The actress was adamant at finding a balance between her work and her new life as a mom. For the unversed, the collaboration between Sandeep and Deepika was supposed to mark the actress’ return to the big screen after giving birth to her beautiful daughter, Dua. However, the filmmaker and the actress could not find a middle ground and she was replaced from the film by Triptii Dimri. Now, Rana Daggubati has reacted to the same.

Deepika Padukone’s demand for an eight hour work day sparked an online debate, with netizens, actors, producers, filmmakers, all contributing to the matter. Amid that, Tollywood star, Rana Daggubati has also joined the ongoing discussion about the work-life balance. Rana offered a perspective on the practicality of implementing uniform work schedules in the Indian film industry and shared that one needs to understand that India is not a developed country. So, for him its not about the work but the lifestyle. He was quoted as saying:

“We should understand that India is a developing country. We are not a developed nation. Our economy is probably 186th in the world if you look at the per capita income. So to me, it is not work, it is a lifestyle.”

In the same conversation, Rana further highlighted the diverse nature of the film production. He added that there is no universal template as people work on diffirent time schedules across various regions. He further shared the mental and physical toll the extended shoot hours was taking on the actors and was quoted as saying:

“It depends on the project, the person, and the region. For example, Maharashtra follows a 12-hour shift starting at 9 am, while Telugu cinema typically has an 8-hour shift beginning at 7 am. Nobody is forcing anybody. It’s a job. It’s a choice. Everyone has their own opinion on what’s important to them. There are actors who only work four hours a day — that’s their system.”

About Sandeep Reddy Vanga and Deepika Padukone’s cold war

While the work hours debate has gained momentum, a new report from News18 claimed that Deepika Padukone’s exit from Spirit had no connection to work-life balance. The report stated that the actress had demanded a higher remuneration along with a share in the profits, and had declined to deliver dialogues in Telugu. While the Jawan actress’ team has yet to respond to these claims, fans are not buying that Deepika was unwilling to deliver dialogues in Telugu, given she had previously worked in Kalki 2898 AD and has recently started the shoot for Atlee and Allu Arjun’s sci-fi film, AA22xA6.
