Eid al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, honours the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The day is observed with prayers, acts of charity, and the ritual sacrifice of animals, symbolising faith, compassion, and the spirit of giving. The festival is celebrated according to the Islamic lunar calendar, which is about 11 days shorter than the Gregorian calendar. As a result, the date of Eid al-Adha shifts every year.
