Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) kicked off its Environment Month 2025 today, emphasising its commitment to sustainability under the theme “Sustainable Resource Management Drive.”
Aligned with the Toyota Environmental Challenge 2050 and the global vision of “Enhancing Awareness Towards Realising Toyota Global Vision 2050,” the initiative promotes a culture of sustainability across TKM’s operations and value chain.
This year’s campaign introduces “Zero-Base Thinking,” a strategy to reevaluate resources from scratch, retaining only those with genuine value to drive efficiency through the 4Rs: Refuse, Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce.
Marking over 25 years of environmental leadership in India, TKM’s Environment Month 2025, themed “Journey to Green @ 25,” highlights key milestones, including 100% renewable energy for grid electricity, 89.3% reliance on recycled water and rainwater for production, and 96% waste recyclability at its facilities. TKM’s Ecozone, a 25-acre experiential learning centre with 17 educational theme parks, has engaged over 42,000 students and stakeholders in fostering ecological awareness.
“At TKM, environmental stewardship is at the core of our philosophy,” said B. Padmanabha, Executive Vice President and Director – Manufacturing, TKM. “Environment Month is a call to action for our entire value chain to contribute to a greener future through transformative solutions and sustainable innovations.”
The “TKM Sustainable Hub 2025” will drive this year’s activities, featuring a weekly sustainable stall series with highlights like a Green Expo showcasing student models from the Toyota Technical Training Institute, a “Wealth from Waste” initiative promoting upcycling, a Green Exhibition of eco-friendly products, and a Tech Show displaying sustainable energy solutions like solar stoves and electric bicycles.
TKM’s eco initiatives include a push for a plastic-free future, targeting zero plastic packaging by 2030, with immediate steps like a 5% reduction in parts packaging and eliminating plastic bottles, covers, and cutlery by July 2025. Other efforts involve promoting a circular economy through upcycled products, reducing CO2, water, and paper usage, and expanding afforestation through sapling distribution and plantation drives. Community engagement will also ramp up, with outreach to schools, ITI colleges, and local communities to foster an eco-conscious mindset.
To encourage innovation, TKM will recognise outstanding environmental contributions from employees, suppliers, dealers, and logistics partners. Guided by Toyota’s “Respect for the Planet” philosophy, TKM aims to achieve carbon neutrality and embed sustainability across its operations, inspiring long-term environmental responsibility through collaboration and forward-thinking solutions.
