Aamir Khan is one of the most successful stars in Indian cinema, dominating the industry for decades. He is one of the three Khans and has cemented his status as a versatile actor with a grounded personality and a flair for working with unique storylines. After a three-year hiatus following the lukewarm response to Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan is returning with Sitaare Zameen Par, a sequel to Aamir’s iconic Taare Zameen Par. Now, the film’s director, RS Prasanna, shares what sets Aamir apart from other stars.
RS Prasanna praises Aamir Khan’s humble nature
RS Prasanna, who gained national acclaim with Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017), is now set to release his second Bollywood film, Sitaare Zameen Par. In a recent interview quoted by Hindustan Times, he praised Aamir Khan’s humility, saying that despite his legendary status, Aamir acts like a newcomer on set. Prasanna shared:
“The most surprising thing about Aamir sir is that he is a legend who behaves like a newcomer, and you have newcomers who behave like legends. For me, it was just like how I connected with Ayush (Ayushmann Khurrana) and Bhumi (Pednekar). I was a first-time director, and they made me feel comfortable. The same is with Aamir sir.”
Recalling the surprising beginning of his collaboration with Aamir Khan, RS Prasanna shared a candid moment when he first received a call from Shamath Mazumdar, Aamir’s manager, shortly after the release of Shubh Mangal Saavdhan. The director, who at first didn’t believe that it was actually Aamir Khan’s production house contacting him, recalled:
“Shamath (Mazumdar), his manager, reached out to me after Shubh Mangal Saavdhan… I got a call from this guy saying, ‘I am calling from AKPL,’ and somehow that AKPL didn’t stick… Later on, when he said Aamir Khan, I wondered ‘ye Aamir Khan ke baare me kyun baat kar raha hai’. When I asked, he specified, and it hit me… I couldn’t think of anybody else in the role.”
Speaking about Aamir Khan’s grounded approach to stardom, RS Prasanna shared how the superstar downplays his fame and firmly avoids any form of starry gimmick. He insists that the spotlight remain on the narrative. The director shared:
“Sometimes, I have to remind him, ‘You are a superstar; people want to watch your film.’ But he won’t let me do any fan service in the film. For him, only the film and the story matter. He doesn’t matter.”

Aamir Khan’s return to the big screen
After a three-year hiatus following the lukewarm response to Laal Singh Chaddha, Aamir Khan is returning to the silver screen with Sitaare Zameen Par. While fans are excited about finding a similar spark to the iconic Taare Zameen Par, netizens are divided on the storyline, as it is a direct adaptation of the popular Hollywood film, Champions, which was also adapted from the Spanish movie, Campeones.
Even though the film has been officially credited as an adaptation, several viewers criticised Sitaare Zameen Par for being a scene-to-scene copy, while some appreciated the concept of inclusivity in the story. Some of the most heartwarming moments in the trailer include Aamir gradually bonding with his team, learning their ways of expression, and finding redemption through acceptance and laughter. Fans are also excited to see Genelia Deshmukh back on the big screen after a decade.
